Clinical Psychologist & Schema Therapist

Dr. Aisling Tennyson

Dr. Aisling Tennyson helps people move beyond anxiety, low mood, trauma, and relationship struggles to build lives that feel genuinely their own. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence — she meets clients where they are and works with them to build practical, lasting change.

At the core of her practice is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which she draws on to help clients understand the links between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. But Aisling's real strength lies in going deeper. She integrates Schema Therapy into her work — an approach that looks beyond present-day symptoms to the deeper patterns, often formed early in life, that keep people stuck in the same painful cycles: the relationships that never quite work out, the self-criticism that won't let up, the sense of not being good enough no matter what's achieved.

Schema Therapy gives these patterns a name and, more importantly, a way through them. Rather than just managing symptoms, it helps clients understand why certain triggers hit so hard, and offers a compassionate, structured path to finally rewriting those old scripts — building healthier relationships with themselves and others, often where other approaches have hit a ceiling. Aisling pairs this with Compassion-Focused Therapy, ACT, and DBT, tailoring her approach to each person rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method.

Aisling's academic grounding is as thorough as her clinical experience. She holds a BA and Higher Diploma in Psychology from University College Dublin, an MSc in Psychological Science, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from University College Cork, along with specialist CBT training from University College London. Her doctoral research examined eating disorders and family-based treatment, and she has published research in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Over the course of her career, Aisling has worked across child, adolescent, adult, and disability services, giving her a broad, adaptable perspective on how people of all ages and backgrounds navigate difficulty — and heal from it.

She integrates Compassion-Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, CBT, DBT, and Mindfulness. Her doctoral research explored sound intolerance in autism and the effects of noise-attenuation devices. She has presented research on youth mental health and suicide prevention at national and international conferences.
